The Story Behind the Design

Nüshu (Women's Script) originated in Jiangyong County, Hunan Province, China, and is the world's only known writing system created and preserved exclusively by women.

For generations, women used Nüshu to write poems, letters, songs, and heartfelt messages, expressing friendship, hope, resilience, and personal stories through elegant flowing characters.

This design reimagines those graceful calligraphic forms through traditional indigo batik. The slender Nüshu strokes intertwine with geometric spiral motifs inspired by historic textile patterns, creating a harmonious balance between written language and decorative art.
